Lots of you may have seen this in the news recently. An 8 month pregnant lady posted pictures of herself weight lifting and it caused quite a bit of controversy. So here is my thoughts on it – awesome!
This lady is used to lifting weights before she was pregnant so is quite safe to do so now. However, I personally wouldn’t recommend any weights above the head due to relaxin in the body making joints less stable and I would also ensure that the core is engaged before lifting any weights.
It is great to continue exercising throughout pregnancy and many ladies feel the benefit during in labour for staying physically fit and strong. If starting exercise after becoming pregnant I would recommend a much lower intensity of exercise including pilates work to strengthen the abdominals and core.
