Race for life

This weekend Variety fitness (our company) worked at Race for life in Stockport offering free sports massage pre and post race with any donations going to Cancer research. We also gave out half price sports massage vouchers to reward all the ladies for their hard work. It was the hottest day of the year so far, but despite this they were all finished within the hour (it was 5k) so well done to all of you that took part, you were amazing!
I hope you have all checked out the videos of me working out with the xcos and tried the recipe I gave you last week.
I have been doing my xco challenge for 3 weeks now and I’m very pleased to say I have already reached my goals!!!! I lost the inch around my waist (now 24 inches) and bum (34 inches) that I wanted to get rid of. I will take my body fat measurement at the end of the 4 weeks and update you then. To achieve these results all I did was add the 40 minute xco workout to my current routine once a week, research has found that using the xco’s will burn upto 33% more calories than working out without them. I have also eaten a balanced diet of 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30 % fats, with the odd treat.
Variety fitness are also setting up Bootcamps in Macclesfield to help you achieve your summer body! These will be starting from 20th July running on Tuesdays at 7:30pm, Wednesdays at 9:30am and Saturdays at 7:30am as 6 week courses and include nutritional and dietary analysis and advice. To book your place email me at You could achieve your goals too!
Work hard, play hard.
See you next week

Final xco clip

xco cardio

Here is a clip of my cardio workout with my xco trainers that i promised i would upload!

I can ride my bike with no hands, but I couldn’t sit on that seat a minute longer!

What beautiful weather! My husband and I took advantage of the gorgeous sunshine and went for a 23.5 mile bike ride on Sunday. I teach spin a lot so I’m used to sitting on uncomfortable seats, but my bike is definitely the worst! I need to pimp my ride, I’m thinking a gel seat, toe cages and some tassels on the handle bars! As for being able to ride no handed I suspect that’s due to my pilates!
I suppose you are all wondering how the second xco workout went, it was great, just as painful (good pain) and just as long to recover, but I still love it. Dave (my husband) will upload snippets of it on you tube for me on Friday (I promise I will learn to do this myself) and I’ll post a link on here for you all to see.
I thought today I would post a recipe for you which I tried out on Saturday, it is a bbq recipe but because it wasn’t great on Saturday I did them on the grill instead.
Tikka grilled fish:
2 whole sea bream/ red snapper (I don’t like fish with eyes in so I got fillets of cobbler instead)
2 tablespoons freshly grated ginger
2 garlic cloves, crushed
6 tablespoons of natural yogurt
2 teaspoons of chilli powder
2 teaspoons of turmeric
3 teaspoons of cumin seeds
Firstly slash the skin of the fish , then mix together the garlic and ginger and rub all over the fish, season with a little salt.
Next mix the natural yogurt with the spices/ herbs and use to coat the fish. Chill until ready to cook and either grill or bbq. Serve with salad and/or brown rice. Enjoy! Let me know what you think.

Me and My Xco-trainers

I first came across the xco-trainers at IFS this year when I did a session with Gary and Steve and I was immediately hooked! I have never ached so much in all my life and never for as long as I did, I loved them! So what are they? In my words they are; hollow dumbbells with granules inside that create an impact on your muscles, however, if you want a more scientific explanation visit their website Research has proven that with using the xcos you can build upper body strength and burn up to 33% more calories during cv training.
As most of you that know me will know that there isn’t a lot of me, I’m 5 foot (I promise!) and weigh in at 46kg, however I would like just a little less body fat (2%) and to lose an inch off my waist so I have decided that my only training session for myself (I normally teach 20 classes a week so don’t do much training for myself) will be done purely with xco-trainers for the next 4 weeks to see if I can achieve these goals.
I completed my first session in the garden on Saturday being as it was such a nice day I didn’t want to be in a studio/gym on my day off, my neighbours already think I’m nuts so I thought why not. The session went as follows: 5 min warm without xcos, 20 mins of a combat based aerobic routine with xcos including punches such as hooks and uppercuts, repeater knees with pulldowns, jump squats, lunges, woodchops (up/down, diagonally r/l and l/r) etc. Then I completed a mini circuit of conditioning exercises for main muscle groups (5 exercises, 30s, x2) and finishing with abs with the xcos. Today is Tuesday and I’m only just getting over the muscle ache! Fab!
I will keep you all updated over the coming weeks and video the next session for you all to see. I will also be unleashing these on one of my lucky personal training clients next week!
For now keep active and keep smiling!
